History:

1885: Congo state created by Leopold II, the King of Belgium.

1960:Congo becomes independent...Kasavubu=president,Lumumba=prime minister

1964:Mobutu seizes power through a military coup and rules the country for more than 30 years.

In the 60's -Kanyarwanda war in North Kivu.

In 1964: The Mulele war in Kivu.

In 1973 the Schrame war in Kivu. Bukavu bombarded heavily.

The Zairian/Congolese Abahutu (abantu) people live in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the border with Uganda and Rwanda. They resemble the Hutu people in Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. Their mother tongue is similar to Kinyarwanda spoken in Rwanda, to Kirundi spoken in Burundi and to the gikiga spoken in Bufumbira, south-west Uganda. Linguistics have studied the Abahutu mother tongue and languages of many other African people in eastern, central and southern Africa.
